One more gift to give

We heard from my relatives in Thailand, and they're all fine over there. Nobody was near the hard-hit areas--most of my family is in Bangkok, which is on the other side of the long peninsula from Phuket and the other devastated areas of the country. I do have an uncle who has property in Phuket, but they were not vacationing there because of the holidays.

Another uncle of mine (by marriage) is from Sri Lanka and was over there when the tsunami hit. Again, he was on the other side of the island and was not in danger. It's going to be hard for a lot of people, whole countries even, in the coming months and years--please give to a relief fund if you can.

Happy New Year everyone.

Wiki wierdness

Flipping through the referral logs at LPTJ, I spotted one for a Wikipedia page on the band Interpol. I figured the entry featured a link to one of LPTJ's more popular recent articles, a list of 101 things lazy critics could use as points of comparison rather than Joy Division, written just before Interpol released their second album.

When I went to the referring page however, there was no link anywhere to be found. Puzzled, I clicked the 'discussion' tab, but the resultant page said that no talk page yet existed. I scanned the wiki entry again, looking for something I'd missed, but there was nothing much there, just three very dull paragraphs featuring biographical details about the band. I almost gave up when I decided to click the 'history' tab.

A quick scan of the edit history showed that people had added album releases and last names, and then something jumped out at me. The most recent edit was a guy reverting the two previous edits back to the version previous to them, which coincidentally was by him. Clicking the link to the edits he'd wiped revealed that yep, that version of the page featured a link to the LPTJ article. I scanned down the page and noticed that this same guy had done this a few times before. I clicked on this dude's name and read his profile, which quickly revealed to me that he was banned from mid-2003 to August 2004, for making bad edits.

I don't know who added the link to our article, but I wonder why this guy didn't like it. It's not exactly factual info about the band, but as an external link I think it's a funny addition to the band's page. Oh well, it's certainly nothing I'm going to be upset about, but it took a teensy bit of the shine off Wikipedia for me.
