Firefly

Wow, it's been nearly a month since I've updated the main section of this site. Sorry 'bout that. It's not that I don't have anything to say, it's more that I don't know what to say here--I'm not sure I'm the type of person who's right for keeping a site like this. I'm not one to talk unless I know someone's actively listening.

Anyway, what's up with me? I'm good. Summer in NC is really hitting its stride--the crape myrtles and hibiscus are beginning to bloom, and the fireflies are out at night. Reading Infinite Jest again, loving it again. Trying to simultaneously read Quicksilver, and while I'm slowly getting into it, it's been a bit of a jarring departure from the books I've been reading recently. I loved Cryptonomicon, but Stephenson's romanticization of his fictionalized historical figures is beginning to grate just a tad. I'm not going to give up, because I think he's a great storyteller and his characters are great overall, but I am finding his style a bit clunky after as much Pynchon, Wallace, and even Coupland I've been reading in the past month or so.

I'm beginning to really love the recent Caribou album.

Well, I am hardly the typical reader, but this entry certainly made my morning about a million times better! That firefly pic is the bomb. The bomb of fireflies.

I almost picked up Infinite Jest at the library the other day, but settled on Anna Karenina instead.

There are fireflies in my neighborhood too, and they make me so happy. Most of the ones I've seen have had a distinctly blue-green glow, not so much the bright orange you've captured here.
