Here's a somewhat more photo-related comment (though not about the sprouts themselves): Are those wild strawberry leaves I spy in there with them? The little serrated ones?

Wendy: I'll email you!
Phil: Yes, but unfortunately they're the wildly invasive (and inedible)wild strawberry variety that is taking over my lawn! I have some yummier cultivated strawberries in the garden area, and I'm hoping to get some nice fruits this year, before the birds and other critters get to 'em.

Are they actually strawberries, or are the Potentilla (look about the same, taste kind of like wood)?
We've got a ton of strawberry plants this year...but the bird pressure is so high that I haven't really gotten any kind of a supply built up...I just eat them when I notice they're ripe when I'm out in the yard. I've got five cultivated varieties and 14 wild selections, and six selections from crosses of my own (unfortunately the best one is not self-fertile, so the fruit is weird shaped and erratic in size because of uneven pollination, but it's really yummy.)

Lalitree,
I have no other way of getting in contact with you, except for a very unresponsive Alex Lazara who won't get back to me with your email address. This is an out-of-left-field question, and it has zero relevance to your beautiful sprout photo.
Question is: Do you have access to four lab coats I could borrow? One for a tall skinny guy (Dylan Thurston), one for a large, shorter but still normal-for-guy-sized guy (Andy Spain), one for a less-large but still kind of stocky fellow (Jay Cartwright) and one for a skinny short lady (Me, Wendy J. Spitzer, Esq.) ???
Eyes to Space is doing a photo shoot on March 11, and I am in charge of tracking down lab coats for it. I remember from a long time ago, you mentioning you had access to lab coats, because you are a scientist of some kind. Or something.
my email is spitzer@fastmail.fm and I would be happy to buy you some sort of liqueur for your trouble...please...may we borrow them???
thanks for your time. In order to make this post relevant, I bring you this interesting news story, also involving sprouts: http://www.tampabays10.com/weird/weird_article.aspx?storyid=25086
thx,
Wendy
